What Defines YOU?

If I asked you the question, "Who are you!?", what would you tell me? I'm not asking what's your name, how old are you, or how long your weave is, but how you would define yourself. Could you give me some things that would describe you. I watched the movie, Best Man Holiday (I know I'm behind, bear with me), and the actor Taye Diggs asks his follow co-stars "What are three principles you stand on?"  It made me think. What are three principles I stand on? What are the things I live by that define me? Take a minute and think about this question too.

Three principles I personally live by are God, Family, Determination. Three things my grandma made sure were instilled in me. God! You can't do anything without him. Now, everyone has their beliefs and I'm fine with that, I just know when something is wrong the first person I call on is God and the first thing I say when something is bothering me is, "Oh my God." I got through situations that seemed impossible to get through because of him. He made ways out of no way & he gave light to the darkest situations. My faith is the number one thing that gives me strength to keep going everyday even when I just want to stop.

Family over everything, except God, and below nothing else. Personally, my family grounds me in ways many people can not. My family is my everything. Their love, support, and unselfishness is what reminds me to push harder. I'm not saying my family is perfect but which family is.

Family does not have to be your biological family; you can have friends as family, a group you belong to, adoptive family, whatever the case may be —you have some type of family. Family builds your character and really defines you. Whether you want to admit it or not, family has tested you in some way causing you to grow. It may not always be a good test, but sometimes going through certain things with certain people is necessary.

lastly, Determination! Everyday you wake up, you must find something or someone to motivate you. There are days in our lives when we really do not want to do anything or feel like giving up, yet we carry on. There are times when we will struggle and get knocked down, but giving up cannot be an option. We must remain determined. The road to success will not be easy; in fact, it is very rugged and tiring.  Everything won't come to us easily and if it does, something is not right with it. You have to do this for yourself. Write down your goal with steps to get there. Visit this plan several times and adjust it as time goes on. Write down when you have accomplished a step or can skip a step because you have did research and does not need it anymore. Keep a reminder in your pocket to keep you motivated. Pray for it, work for it, and receive it.

Love always,
